The 228 HSL steps up to 130 tons with the same attachment flexibility that defines Link-Belt’s HSL line: run a 45 to 235 ft tube boom, swap to a 45 to 155 ft luffing boom, or add the 30 to 75 ft fixed jib for a 284 ft tip height. A nine-piece counterweight system, two car body slabs plus seven upper pieces, lowers itself to the ground with a quick-removal mechanism.
Power comes from a Cummins QSB6.7 (270 hp, Tier 4 Final), and the HSL rated capacity limiter reads out boom length, boom angle, jib length and angle, load radius, and tip height on the operator’s display. Maximum crawler travel speed is 1.3 mph, the quickest in the current HSL/V lineup.
