Heavy-duty capacity and reach.
A lattice crawler crane rides on two sets of steel tracks and lifts with a lattice, or truss-style, boom, cross-braced open sections that are bolted and pinned together on site. That construction is what lets this class of crane reach hundreds of tons of capacity and boom lengths past 350 feet. The crane is trucked in multiple loads and assembled on site, often self-assembling its own boom and counterweight with hydraulic systems built into the carrier.
Every Link-Belt® model in this line runs a Cummins engine, either the QSB6.7 across the six smaller HSL/V models or the larger QSL9 in the 298 and 348 Series 2, so the choice between models comes down to capacity, boom and jib configuration, and how the job needs to be rigged.

Lattice Crawler Crane FAQ
What is a lattice crawler crane?
A lattice crawler crane rides on two sets of tracks and uses a lattice, or truss-style, boom built from cross-braced open steel sections instead of a smooth telescoping tube. That construction lets a lattice crawler reach far higher capacities and boom lengths than a telescopic crane, at the cost of needing to be trucked in and assembled on site rather than driving there itself.
What is the difference between a lattice crawler and a telescopic crawler crane?
Both ride on crawler tracks, but a lattice crawler’s boom is a cross-braced truss structure assembled from sections on site, while a telescopic crawler has a smooth boom that extends hydraulically like a telescopic truck or rough terrain crane. Lattice crawlers generally reach higher capacities; telescopic crawlers set up and move faster.
What size lattice crawler crane do I need?
It depends on your maximum load, radius, and required boom or jib length. Link-Belt’s current US and Canada line runs from the 138 HSL (80 US tons) up to the 348 Series 2 (300 US tons), with the 218|V, 228 HSL, 238 HSL, 248 HSL, 248|V, and 298 Series 2 in between. Do these lattice crawlers offer a luffing jib?
The 228 HSL can run a luffing boom configuration, and the 248|V, 298 Series 2, and 348 Series 2 all offer a dedicated luffing jib attachment for extra height and steeper working ranges in tight quarters.
